Police FC suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Blacks Power FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Wednesday, with Emmanuel Janaan Okwech scoring the decisive goal at the Hoima Stadium.
The result marked a major upset for the Law Enforcers, who went into the match hoping to build on their 1-0 opening day victory over Mbarara City.
Okwech’s strike proved enough to hand Blacks Power all three points and move them to four points after their opening-day barren draw against Ntungasaze FC.
Police, meanwhile, remain on three points from their opening two matches.
Police head coach Matia Lule admitted his side paid the price for taking their opponents lightly and failing to convert their opportunities.
“We would have led the game at half time and the story would be different by this time. But due to a few lapses and despising the opponents, it led us to a loss away from home,” Lule said.
The experienced coach, however, insisted the defeat could become a turning point for his team rather than a setback.
“We are not down by the loss. Instead, it has boosted us to perform better in our next matches.”
For Blacks Power, the victory is significant as they become the first newly promoted side to collect maximum three points this season, giving them an early boost in their battle to establish themselves in the top flight.
Elsewhere, Maroons FC secured an entertaining 3-1 victory over Ntungasaze FC despite finishing the game with 10 men.
The match also saw the return to the scoresheet of former Uganda golden boy Jackson Nunda, who scored a brace to inspire Maroons to victory.
The result gives Maroons an important early boost as the league continues to take shape.
The UPL action continues on Thursday with three fixtures on the card.
At Bukedea Comprehensive School Sports Complex, BUL FC will host stubborn Kataka FC at 4:00 pm.
A double header awaits fans at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, beginning with URA FC against record champions SC Villa at 4:00 pm, before the eagerly anticipated clash between Express FC and KCCA FC at 8:00 pm.
KCCA head coach Brian Ssenyondo says his team remains focused despite the setbacks they have experienced.
“KCCA is such a big team that it does not matter whether we are playing away or at home. Every game is handled with respect, and the setback we got previously never weakened us; instead, it pushed us harder to fight again tomorrow,” Ssenyondo said.
With the early fixtures already producing surprise results, the battle for points is beginning to intensify as the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season gathers momentum.
