Adnan Aziz: The Beninese Forward Dreaming of a Future at Argentina’s Chacarita Juniors

From Benin to Europe, a serious knee injury has not extinguished Adnan Aziz’s ambition to play for an Argentine club he has come to love from afar.

For Adnan Aziz, Chacarita Juniors is more than a football club. It is a dream he hopes to turn into reality.

The Beninese forward has never watched the Argentine side play at its Buenos Aires home ground, but his connection with the club has grown so strong that he describes himself as feeling almost Argentine.

“I feel almost Argentine, I love mate and I think Chacarita is the best team in the world,” he told Argentine sports newspaper Olé.

Born in Djougou, northern Benin, Aziz developed his affection for Chacarita through his Argentine friend and representative, Facundo Patti. What began as a friendship gradually became a personal ambition to wear the club’s shirt.

His story attracted attention among Chacarita supporters in October 2026, with fans reaching out to him on social media. Aziz responded with an open letter thanking the club’s supporters, players and officials, while expressing his hope of one day meeting them inside the stadium.

A journey across European football

Aziz began his career in Benin with Tchémabi FC and Soleil FC before pursuing opportunities in Europe.

His journey took him through Italy, France and the Czech Republic, with spells at Pro Cittiglio, Angers MFC, FK Králův Dvůr and Olympique Saumur. He later played for ASD Licata Calcio and ASD Juvenilia Roseto in Italy.

Moving between countries exposed him to different footballing cultures as he worked to establish himself professionally.

But his progress was interrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury that prevented him from travelling to Argentina for a planned trial with Chacarita Juniors.

The setback forced him to focus on surgery, rehabilitation and his return to fitness. Despite the disappointment, Aziz has continued to pursue his ambitions, hoping another opportunity will eventually emerge.

International ambitions

Aziz has also represented Benin at under-23 level. On 27 July 2022, he scored a headed goal in a 5-0 friendly victory against Aziza FC as the team prepared for the Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifiers, according to Beninese sports outlet Le Champion.

His international experience has added another dimension to a career shaped by opportunities abroad and the challenge of overcoming setbacks.

Beyond football, Aziz has developed a fondness for mate, the traditional South American drink, through friendships with Argentinians he met while playing in Italy. That cultural connection has further strengthened his attachment to Argentina and Chacarita.

A dream still alive

At 24, Aziz is still seeking opportunities to advance his career. A move to Argentina remains an ambition, but there is no confirmed agreement for him to join Chacarita Juniors.

For now, his immediate priority is to continue his recovery, regain consistency and demonstrate what he can offer on the pitch.

His story reflects the international journeys many young footballers undertake in search of opportunities, often navigating unfamiliar cultures, professional uncertainty and difficult setbacks.

For Aziz, however, the destination has a special meaning. He wants to experience Chacarita Juniors not only as a supporter following from afar, but as a player representing the club in front of its fans.

Whether that dream becomes reality remains uncertain. But the connection has already crossed continents — and Aziz is not ready to give up on what he hopes will be the next chapter of his footballing journey.
