Vipers Bolster Goalkeeping With AFCON-Tested Mbaba

Vipers SC have moved to solve their goalkeeping puzzle with the capture of Gabon international Loyce Marius Mbaba.
The 28-year-old signed a two-year deal and becomes the club’s fourth new arrival this transfer window. He inherits the number 1 jersey vacated by Alfred Mudekereza and Bashir Ssekagya.
For Vipers, this is a statement signing ahead of a packed 2026/27 season. With Champions League, UPL, Uganda Cup and Kagame Cup duties, head coach will now have three capable keepers in Mbaba, Kiggundu and Komakech to rotate.

Mbaba arrives battle-tested. He has played for Mangasport, Stella Club and Bouake FC, and has 14 caps for Gabon, including 3 appearances at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
“I’m really excited and looking forward to what is coming,” Mbaba said. “The ambition shown by this club to get me here is something I can’t take for granted.”
He joins pre-season training at St Mary’s Stadium tomorrow.
