Ugandan Utility Player Ayman Twaha ‘Toure’ on Trial at England League One Club

Ugandan utility player Ayman Twaha Toure has taken a major step in his career after travelling to England for trials with League One side Wigan Athletic, as per reports, as he targets a breakthrough into European professional football.

Toure has been one of the standout performers in Uganda’s lower divisions over the last year. He was instrumental for coach Patrick Kimuli’s Buwambo United throughout the Buganda Region League season, helping the club secure promotion to the FUFA Big League after a 5-3 aggregate victory over Kampala Region League side Black Stars FC.

The versatile midfielder is known for his high footballing IQ, long passing range, and strength in aerial duels. He can operate across midfield and adapts quickly to different tactical demands, qualities that have made him a key figure for Buwambo.

Toure’s journey has already taken him through several of Uganda’s football structures. The former Edgars FC captain featured in the prestigious Masaza Cup with Buddu, and in this edition he had already penned a deal with Buweekula. He has also turned out for Bugerere in the past.

Wigan Athletic, founded in 1932, compete in England’s League One, the third tier of English football. A successful trial at the DW Stadium would give Toure his first shot at professional football in Europe and open a new chapter for one of Ugandan football’s most adaptable talents.

For Toure, the trial is more than a personal chance. It is another example of Uganda’s regional league players getting a pathway to the international stage, and a test of whether his composure, vision, and aerial presence can translate to the English game.
