Kyaggwe have been crowned 2026 Masaza Cup champions after edging five-time winners Gomba 1-0 in Saturday’s final at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
A decisive 75th minute strike from substitute Kato George proved the difference as Kyaggwe finally ended their long wait for their maiden Masaza Cup crown. Introduced from the bench, George made an immediate impact, finding the back of the net to send Kyaggwe supporters into wild celebrations and write his name into the county’s football history.
The victory marks a remarkable achievement for head coach Ronald Ssali, who guided Kyaggwe to their first-ever Masaza Cup title in his debut season in charge.
Ssali’s appointment had brought renewed hope to a county that had struggled to convert its potential into silverware. Having previously reached the final in 2024 before losing to Buddu, Kyaggwe returned to the championship match with another opportunity to make history, and this time they delivered.
For Gomba, the defeat is a disappointing end to their campaign under Felix Ssekabuza, who was seeking back to back Masaza Cup titles after guiding Buweekula to their maiden championship in 2025.
Ssekabuza had returned to Gomba with hopes of adding a sixth title to the county’s impressive collection, but his side fell short against a determined Kyaggwe outfit.
Gomba, who were appearing in their 11th final, remain the most successful county in the competition’s history with five championships. However, the day belonged to Kyaggwe, whose players, technical team, management and supporters can finally celebrate a historic breakthrough after years of waiting.
From the disappointment of previous campaigns to the ultimate glory at Wankulukuku, Kyaggwe have finally reached the summit of Buganda’s prestigious football competition.
Kyaggwe are the 2026 Masaza Cup champions!
