KCCA FC’s title ambitions took a hit as they suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to Calvary FC in a Uganda Premier League match today. The loss added pressure on coach Brian Ssenyondo, who was already facing scrutiny over the team’s inconsistent performance this season.

Lawrence Olaboro was the hero of the day, scoring the only goal for Calvary FC in the 60th minute and earning the Man of the Match award. This win was crucial for Calvary FC, who are fighting for survival in the league, while KCCA FC’s title hopes were dealt a significant blow.

KCCA FC struggled without 12 key players, including Herbert Achai (family matter), Gavin Kizito (suspension), Fillbert Obenchan, Kennedy Muserero, and Emmanuel Anyama (illness), Alex Yiga, Enock Walusimbi (knock), Alpha Thierry Ssali (muscle strain), James Mubezi (hand fracture), Umar Lutalo, Bright Anukani, and Derrick Nsibambi (knee injuries).

KCCA FC lined up as follows:
Mugolofa (1), Lazaro (27), Magambo (C) (13), Muhamud (3), Steven (45), Joel (22), Jjara (56), Mayanja (4), Kwikiriza (19), Ahimbisibwe (11), SSEBADUKA (6)
Subs: Lukwago, Mezul, Humphrey, Katenga, Ssengendo, Mugisha, Mugume.

KCCA FC has 51 points from 25 matches, still second on the table, KCCA FC will regroup and face table leaders Vipers SC on the 29th of this month at the MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo.

KCCA FC’s title drought stretches back to the 2018-19 season under Coach Mike Mutebi, and this season’s campaign has been disappointing, to say the least. With Vipers SC sitting pretty at the top, KCCA FC trails by four points, with the leaders having a match in hand.

As the season hurtles towards its climax, KCCA FC’s remaining five matches seem daunting, especially with Vipers SC having six games left to play.
