Kataka FC Earns Promotion as Catda Survives on Final Day in FUFA Big League Drama
The FUFA Big League got underway today with eight decisive fixtures across the country as clubs battled to secure promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and avoid the drop to the regional leagues. The final day delivered goals, tension, and history for several sides.
Kataka Football Club claimed a 2-0 win over Soltilo Bright Stars at Bugolobi Coffee Grounds. Ali Sentamu broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, and Usama Khayemba sealed it in the 86th.
The result confirmed promotion for coach Godfrey Owachango Toldo’s side, who will feature in the Uganda Premier League for the first time in the club’s history.
For Soltilo Bright Stars, the defeat sealed their fate, sending coach Ian Mutenda’s team down to the Kampala Region League.
In another survival battle, Lufula Boys Catda Football Club held their nerve with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kigezi HomeBoyz FC to stay up. Mufumbiro Haidari’s solitary strike proved enough, and credit goes to coach Richard Luyima, who came in late in the season and guided Catda to safety on the last day.
Blacks Power FC were crowned FUFA Big League champions after playing out a 0-0 draw with Onduparaka FC at Greenlight Stadium. The point was enough for coach Mike Skills Lukyamuzi’s side to finish top and earn promotion alongside Kataka.
Young Elephants Football Club also flexed their attacking muscle, thrashing Wakiso Giants FC 4-0, a result that condemned Wakiso Giants to relegation to the regional league.
Elsewhere, Iganga United Football Club ran riot with a 6-2 win over Mbale Heroes FC, while Paidha Black Angels SC edged Nebbi Central FC 1-0, a loss that sent Nebbi Central down. James Jarieko netted twice as Ntugasaze FC beat Kiyinda Boys FC 3-0 at Bertham City Recreational Ground, Kiwenda, securing their own place in the Premier League. Kaaro Karungi also escaped the drop with a 1-0 away win over Bunyaruguru on the final day.
