90 Minutes to Glory: Kampala Region League Title Race Goes To Final Day

Kampala Region League Title Race Set for Final-Day Decider After Weekend Drama

The Kampala Region League championship is heading for a nerve-shredding finale after Proline FC and Black Stars FC both delivered on matchday 34 to set up a winner-takes-all last round next weekend.

With UGX 20 million on the line, Black Stars lead on 51 points, with Proline breathing down their necks on 50.

Proline FC did their part with a 2-0 away win over PCCP FC. John Bazanye Bugoba broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, and Gerald Lukola made sure of the points in the 61st. PCCP’s challenge collapsed further in the 35th minute when Abdul Rahman Mustafah saw red for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

The win lifts Proline to 50 points, keeping them in the hunt heading into the final day.

They’ll have home advantage next Sunday when they host Born Talent at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. Proline need a win and must hope Black Stars drop points to snatch the title.

League leaders Black Stars FC refused to blink, responding with a dominant 4-1 victory over Mutungo FC at Express Kanyanya Playground. Benon Lutaaya led the charge with a brace, while Akram Katende and Muzamil Mwebe added one each to move Black Stars to 51 points. It was the kind of ruthless performance that keeps them in control ahead of their final test.

Black Stars now travel to Mutesa II Wankulukuku Stadium to face Edgars FC in their last match. A win will guarantee the title.

Elsewhere Across the Region

Born Talent FC kept their own hopes of a strong finish alive with a 2-1 win over Edgars FC at Kyambogo College Ground. Eric Nsubuga Wagana opened the scoring in the 47th minute and Tony Lwanga sealed it in the 82nd. Lukuli Hearts edged Kireka United 1-0 courtesy of Shafic Sekinemye’s 71st-minute strike.

Mbogo United produced the weekend’s biggest scoreline, thrashing Kisugu United 6-2. Jordan Ajuna, Mpima Adiri, Moses Tomusange, Hamuza Kasumba, Joshua Mugwaneza, and William Sseruyange all got on the scoresheet for Mbogo, with Bruno Mukwaya and Gabriel Emulu replying for Kisugu.

Buganda Road and Lufula FC played out a goalless draw, while William Kiibi’s double fired Police Young FC to a 2-0 win over Ntinda United. Wembley Boys FC also claimed a 4-2 victory against Nsambya SC.

With Black Stars on 51 points and Proline on 50, the Kampala Region League has boiled down to 90 minutes. Black Stars control their own destiny — win at Wankulukuku and the UGX 20 million prize is theirs. Proline must beat Born Talent and pray for a Black Stars slip.

After months of competition, fitness battles, and tight contests, it’s only right that the title and bragging rights will be decided in one last, winner-takes-all weekend. Kampala football fans, clear your Sunday — this race is going down to the wire.
