PRECIOUS ASIIMWE MAKES HISTORY FOR UGANDA AT AFRICAN ARCHERY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Uganda has its first ever African Archery Champion.
Precious Allan Asiimwe won GOLD in the Para Recurve category at the African Archery Championships in Oran, Algeria, after beating world No.29 Izri Abdelkader of Algeria in a dramatic finale.
“It was a nail biting finale where it came down to a shoot off in the 6th set. Precious kept his nerve and hit a 9 to better the 7 Izri made.” – Uganda Archery Association
The win marks one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.
Straight off the podium, Precious took time to share his thoughts with World Archery President Greg Easton.
“Just a few months ago he attended a World Archery/Olympic Solidarity training course in Morocco [with coach Aisha] where he gained valuable knowledge that helped him win.” – Uganda Archery Association
It’s been a rapid rise. Precious mastered the sport in just over a year.
“To top it off he used the Fivics bow donated to Uganda Archery last year from World Archery to train with and use to win Gold. A testament at what we as Uganda Archery can achieve with the right tools and mindset.” – Uganda Archery Association
Uganda Archery also extended gratitude to the sport’s global body:
“We thank World Archery for lending a hand to Uganda Archery to help expand the sport. We hope we did you proud as well!”
The team in Algeria also included Bashir Mutyaba [Para Recurve], Shiloh Kamukama Ayebare [U18 Recurve], Coach Aisha Namukwaya, *Lillian Muhangi *, and Sula Blick [Vice President/Team Manager].[Manager]
