Kenneth Semakula Joins Egyptian Side Al Ittihad Alexandria
Uganda Cranes defensive midfielder Kenneth Semakula has officially completed a move to Egyptian Premier League side Al Ittihad Alexandria. The versatile player joins the Alexandria-based club as a free agent after parting ways with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Adalah earlier this year, and he now begins a new chapter in North Africa.
Semakula brings with him a wealth of experience gained from playing in multiple countries. The 25-year-old has featured in Uganda, Tunisia, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, and is comfortable operating both as a defensive midfielder and in central defense. He previously turned out for Tunisian giants Club Africain, and locally he made his name with Busoga United before moving to SC Villa. At Villa, he served as captain and led the Jogoos to their record-extending 17th Uganda Premier League title in the 2023-24 season.
On the international stage, Semakula was part of the Uganda U20 team that reached the AFCON U20 final in 2021, where they fell 2-0 to Ghana. He has since graduated to the Uganda Cranes senior team and remains part of the national team setup.
Al Ittihad Alexandria competes in the Egyptian Premier League, the highest level of football in Egypt. With this move, Semakula becomes the second Ugandan player in history to represent the club, following in the footsteps of former Cranes forward Emmanuel Okwi.
