SC Villa Captain David Owori Dies After Brutal Attack
Ugandan football is in mourning after SC Villa confirmed the death of club captain David Owori, who was killed following a brutal attack by unknown individuals last night.
In a statement released on Tuesday, August 5th, the 16-time league champions said they are “devastated” by the loss of their leader. Owori was rushed to hospital after the attack but succumbed to his injuries.
“David was a valuable player, leader, and servant of the game whose loss is deeply felt by both the Club and the nation,” SC Villa said. “This senseless act has robbed the Club and the country of a committed captain and a promising sportsman, and it must not go unanswered.”
Owori was more than just the SC Villa captain. The defender had built a respected career across the Uganda Premier League, turning out for Proline FC and Vipers SC before joining the Jogoos. He also proudly wore the national colors, representing the Uganda Cranes at international level.
The club has pledged to stand with Owori’s family and ensure he receives a decent and dignified send-off. SC Villa has also called on security agencies to urgently investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We commiserate with David’s family, teammates, friends, supporters, and the entire football fraternity during this painful moment,” the statement added.
Tributes have already begun pouring in from across the local football community for a player remembered for his leadership on and off the pitch.
As the football fraternity comes to terms with the loss, Owori leaves behind a legacy of commitment, discipline, and service to Ugandan football that will be hard to replace.
Owori played for clubs like Proline FC, Vipers SC among others.
