Police FC Secure UGX 450m Yaobai Cement Sponsorship Deal

Uganda Police Football Club have received a major financial boost after securing a UGX 450 million first year sponsorship deal with Yaobai Cement Karamoja, providing fresh impetus to the club’s ambitions of returning to the top of Ugandan football.
The partnership was officially signed at Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, in a ceremony attended by Police FC officials, Yaobai Cement representatives, marketing partners and members of the media.
The deal is expected to strengthen Police FC’s competitiveness, improve the club’s institutional capacity and support its ambitions of challenging for honours in domestic and regional competitions.

For Yaobai Cement, the partnership is not only a commercial investment but also part of a broader community development strategy, with football identified as a powerful tool for engaging young people and providing opportunities away from crime and idleness.
Yaobai Cement Managing Director Mr. Xing Chao said the company also wants to use the partnership to build recognition for its relatively new product in the Ugandan market.
“We are targeting the community to remember Yaobai for its strength and security. Since our product is new on the market, Police FC is the right team to trust it with.”
The partnership therefore brings together Yaobai’s ambition to establish its brand in Uganda and Police FC’s longstanding connection with communities through football.

Backing a Sleeping Giant
Police FC enter the partnership with a football history stretching back 61 years.
The club has won the Uganda Premier League and the CECAFA Club Championship, while also producing and nurturing several players who have gone on to make their mark in Ugandan football.
However, despite that rich history, Police FC have struggled with financial limitations in recent years, affecting their ability to compete consistently at the highest level.
The club was consequently described during the sponsorship launch as a “sleeping giant” with the potential to regain its position among Uganda’s leading football clubs if backed with sustained investment.
Police FC Chairperson Timothy Halango believes the new partnership can be the beginning of that revival, while highlighting the club’s role in transforming the lives of young people through football.

“It’s true we are nurturing a lot of street kids through football and giving them a new life, and by this sponsorship I believe Police FC will be back at the top of Ugandan football.”
His remarks underline the wider social role the club hopes to play, particularly in identifying young talent and providing them with a structured pathway through football.
UGX 450m First-Year Commitment
As part of the agreement, Police FC received a UGX 450 million cheque, representing the first year of the sponsorship.
Both parties indicated that the partnership is designed to grow, with future funding levels expected to be influenced by the club’s performance and additional agreements between the partners.
Police FC leadership welcomed the investment, acknowledging the financial challenges that have affected the club while expressing confidence that the partnership will help establish stronger structures and improve the team’s competitiveness.
Beyond the financial contribution, Yaobai also indicated that Police FC players, technical staff and supporters will have direct and affordable access to its products as the partnership develops.

For Police FC, the Yaobai deal represents more than financial assistance. It offers the club an opportunity to convert its historic status into renewed ambition and build a stronger foundation for sustained success.
For Yaobai Cement, meanwhile, Police FC provides a high-profile platform through which the company can increase brand visibility, build trust and establish a lasting connection with communities across Uganda.
The challenge now shifts to Police FC to turn the investment into results on the pitch and begin awakening the sleeping giant.
