EACOP, Buganda Kingdom Break Ground For Kabaka Daudi Chwa II Stadium In Masaka
MASAKA — East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd, in partnership with Buganda Kingdom, has broken ground for the construction of the Kabaka Daudi Chwa II EACOP Stadium in Buddu, Country-Masaka City.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 23rd July 2026 and marks a major step in EACOP’s Social Economic Investment pillar, which focuses on youth empowerment and the social-economic wellbeing of communities along the pipeline.
10-Acre Facility For 4 Counties
Buganda Kingdom has committed 10 acres of land for the state-of-the-art community sports center. EACOP made a financial contribution toward construction of the facility, which is envisioned to nurture young talent, promote fitness, and serve as a hub for unity and community engagement.
The stadium will serve villages across 4 of Buganda Kingdom’s 18 counties:
- Gomba District – Gomba County
- Kyankwanzi District – Singo County
- Mubende District – Buwekula County
- Sembabule District – Mawogola County
- Lwengo, Kyotera, and Rakai Districts – Buddu County
Commitment To Community Development
Speaking at the ceremony, JB Habumugisha, Deputy Managing Director of EACOP Ltd, said the project reflects the company’s long-term commitment to sustainability.
“By supporting the sports centre, we are investing in initiatives that deliver lasting value for communities in which we operate,” Habumugisha said.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, welcomed the partnership, noting that the Kingdom values collaborations that address critical needs.
“The Kingdom cherishes collaborations that address critical needs such as youth empowerment. Through Kabaka Daudi Chwa II EACOP Stadium Buddu, we are happy to work with EACOP to create a legacy of resilience, opportunity, and growth for our people,” Mayiga said.
About The Pipeline
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline is a 1,443km export infrastructure that will transport Uganda’s crude oil from Kabaale – Hoima to the Chongoleani peninsula near Tanga in Tanzania.
The Ugandan section stretches 296km through 10 districts and 25 sub-counties. 7 of those districts lie within Buganda Kingdom, covering 130km.
EACOP Ltd is a special purpose company with shareholders TotalEnergies 62%, Uganda National Oil Company 15%, Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation 15%, and CNOOC 8%.
The construction of the stadium highlights the shared commitment of Buganda Kingdom and EACOP toward driving community transformation and development in Masaka and beyond.
