Mpigi 5th Division League Kicked Off : Gombe Stars Stumble in Season Opener, Kamengo United Gets Winning Start

The Mpigi 5th Division League, a platform for local football clubs to showcase their talent and compete for regional supremacy, kicked off yesterday with six matches played across different venues in Mpigi District, Uganda.

The league, which brings together teams from various parts of the district, provides an opportunity for players to develop their skills and gain exposure, with the top teams earning promotion to higher divisions.

The season promises to be an exciting one, with several teams, including Gombe Stars, Kamengo United, and Mpigi United FC, vying for top honors.

At Mpigi Police Playground, Gombe Stars suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mpigi United FC, courtesy of Ssemakula Frank’s lone strike.

Despite being led by head coach Hood Mayanja and assisted by Ronald Nkonge, both of whom have professional playing experience, Gombe Stars couldn’t get the job done and began the season on a losing note.

The team, with technical director Kayinda Mustapha overseeing operations, will look to bounce back from their loss when they host Nsamizi this week on Sunday at Kyanja Playground.

In a bright spot for the opening day, Kamengo United got their campaign off to a winning start, defeating Nsamizi Institute.

The victory sets the tone for Kamengo United’s season, and they’ll be looking to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches.

In other matches, Mpigi Football Club, one of the oldest clubs in Mpigi District Football Association, started the season on a winning note, with their victory over Gombe Stars.

At Kyanja Playground, Kyanja United emerged 2-0 winners over Watoto Soccer Academy, with Kayaga Allan and Mubiru Allan scoring for the winners.

Streamline FC (Bulo Parents) won 3-2 against Butoolo United in a thrilling encounter at Butoolo Playground, with Waligo Julius, Tumusiime Imran, and Kabenge Pius scoring for the winners.

Standard Warriors suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Nakirebe Football Club at Musamude Playground, while Kyagalanyi Football Club drew goalless with Mawokota United at Kibuye Playground. The Mpigi 5th Division League promises to deliver more exciting matches and surprises as the season progresses.
