Mbalangu Hussein Faces Tough Task Ahead as URA FC Looks to Turn Fortunes Around

Hussein Mbalangu, the new head coach of Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club, will be putting his skills to the test today as he handles his first Uganda Premier League match at the helm of the Tax Collectors.

Mbalangu, who was unveiled as the new coach of URA FC at the end of last month, takes charge of his maiden UPL match against Entebbe UPPC FC at Hamz stadium Nakivubo, with kickoff scheduled for 4pm.

Mbalangu, who replaced Alex Isabirye who was sacked due to poor results, comes into this match with a wealth of experience, having previously led NEC FC to the Uganda Cup final in his debut season, where they lost 1-0 to Kitara FC. In his second season, Mbalangu led NEC FC to a second-place finish on the table, earning them a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup, where they were eventually eliminated by Nairobi United FC.

Mbalangu’s backroom staff includes Bastu Ssemuyaba as first assistant coach, Richard Kansole as second assistant coach, Muwadda Byuma as goalkeeping coach, and Osama Farouk as fitness trainer, deputized by Manko Kawesa, both former URA FC players.

Speaking after being unveiled as URA FC coach last month , Mbalangu expressed his readiness to bring success to the club.

“We are here to work and to bring back the success this great club deserves. I thank the management for the trust and the opportunity. We are ready to start immediately, beginning with the Mapinduzi Cup. Those who haven’t played URA FC yet should get scared — we are here to win,” he had said.

Mbalangu’s tenure got off to a promising beginning, with URA FC winning one match, drawing one, and losing one in the Mapinduzi Cup. However, the team’s form in the Uganda Premier League has been quite alarming, with URA FC losing their three last matches, including a 1-0 defeat to Mbarara City, a 3-0 thrashing by SC Villa, and a 1-0 loss to Kitara FC. Overall, this season, URA FC have managed to register just two wins, five draws, and four losses, leaving them 13th on the table with 11 points from 11 matches.

The task ahead for Mbalangu is daunting, but he has shown in the past that he is capable of turning teams around. Entebbe UPPC FC, who sit sixth on the table with 20 points from 11 matches, will provide a tough test for Mbalangu’s side, but the Tax Collectors will be hoping to get their season back on track. URA FC will return to action after today’s fixture on the 23rd of this month against Vipers SC at Hamz stadium Nakivubo.
