Lugazi Football Club claimed a 2-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints Football Club at Royal Park yesterday.

Freedom Mungudit gave the visitors the lead in the 32nd minute, while Hamuza Mulambuzi sealed the victory one minute to stoppage time. Despite missing eight players – four suspended and four injured – Simon Peter Mugerwa’s side were good enough and got the job done.

Pacy winger Freedom Mungudit was voted the StarTimes Uganda Premier League man of the match. Mungudit’s performance was a key factor in Lugazi’s win, and his speed and skill on the wing were too much for the Buhimba defense.

The win marks a turning point for Lugazi, who had gone eight straight matches without recording a victory. The leaders finally have returned back to winning ways, and it’s a much-needed boost for the team. Lugazi Football Club had last won a match on 18th February 2026, at Najjembe Lugazi Stadium 1-0 against UPDF Football Club courtesy of Richard Ayiko’s solitary strike. That win seemed like a distant memory until now, but Mugerwa’s side have finally gotten back on track.

On the other hand, Buhimba United Saints have lost their ninth match in a row, and it’s clear they’re struggling to find their footing. The team’s lack of depth is starting to show, and they’ll need to regroup quickly if they want to avoid relegation, it’s been a tough season for Buhimba, and it looks like things might get tougher before they get better.

Lugazi FC now have 23 points, 12th on the table, while Buhimba sit 15th on the table with 15 points from 26 matches. The win is a small step forward for Lugazi, but they’ll need to keep building on it if they want to climb the table.

Their next match is against Mbarara City FC on 6th of May 2026 at home, and they’ll be looking to make it two wins on the bounce. As for Buhimba, they’ll need to find a way to break their losing streak and start picking up points if they want to stay in the division.
