The Stanbic Uganda Cup commenced today with three thrilling matches. In the first match, NEC Football Club secured a 2-0 win over UPDF Football Club at Bombo Military Barracks ground. Joseph Dhata Lujang scored a brace, netting in the 29th minute, assisted by Richard Basangwa, and converting a penalty in the 45th minute after being fouled in the box. Dhata’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
NEC FC’s new signings made an impact, with Wandera hakim making his full debut and Tony Atukunda coming on as a substitute in the 57th minute, replacing Joseph Seremba.

This win marked NEC FC’s first victory at Bombo Military Barracks and their third overall against UPDF FC, with three previous matches ending in draws. The win was a promising start to their Stanbic Uganda Cup campaign, especially after a shaky league start. They had eliminated Mabira FC in the round of 64 and were now eyeing silverware.
Maroons FC Edged Kumi United 1-0
In another match, Maroons FC narrowly defeated Kumi United 1-0 at Luzira Prisons Playground. Norman Odipio’s 56th-minute strike was enough to secure the win for Muhammad Ssenfuma’s side, sending them to the round of 16. Kumi United, a small team, put up a good fight against the Uganda top-tier side, but ultimately fell short.
Bunyaruguru United Beat Amus College 1-0
Gerald Ogweti’s 56th-minute strike was enough as Bunyaruguru United edged Amus College 1-0. The win secured Bunyaruguru United’s spot in the next round.
