Kitara FC Sign Uganda Cranes Goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa On Two-Year Deal
Kitara FC have bolstered their squad with the signing of Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa on a two-year contract.
The 31-year-old joins the Royals from Ethiopian side Wolwalo Adigrat University FC, where he was instrumental in their Ethiopian FA Cup triumph last season.
Mutakubwa returns to the Uganda Premier League with vast experience, having previously played for Busoga United, Tooro United, Express FC, Kyetume, UPPC, and BUL. He has racked up 126 league appearances and earned 8 caps for the Uganda Cranes.
The shot-stopper reunites with head coach Wasswa Bbosa, under whom he played at Express FC. Mutakubwa becomes one of several new arrivals at Kitara this window, joining Nicholas Kasozi, Martin Kiiza, Bonney Christopher, Jackson Ssembatya, and Missi Ssemugera as Bbosa reshapes his squad.
Speaking on the signing, Bbosa didn’t hide his relief at solving a key problem position.
“We faced some challenges previously and we obviously didn’t want to go through the same again and that’s why you see the arrival of Joel,” he said.
“He is committed, has lots of experience, and his quality is what any other coach would fancy to have in his squad.”
Mutakubwa’s arrival comes at a crucial time. Kitara struggled between the posts last season with injuries to James Alitho and the departure of Aziz Saleh, which left Meddie Kibirige to shoulder most of the goalkeeping duties.
