CATDA FC Retains Only 8 Players In Major Squad Overhaul Ahead of FUFA Big League New Season

CATDA FC has embarked on a major squad overhaul ahead of the new FUFA Big League season, retaining just eight players after narrowly surviving relegation last season.

The Lufula Boys, who endured a difficult campaign last term, have decided to rebuild almost from scratch in a bid to return to their competitive best.

Club President Ratif Dungu confirmed that the club has taken a bold decision to release the majority of last season’s squad due to commitment and disciplinary concerns.

“As we are getting in good shape ahead of the season, we are working to get back to our norm. Last season we faced issues with players; some were not willing to fight for the badge while others had disciplinary issues,” Dungu said.

“For that, we have decided to let go of most players and retain only eight. So far we have recruited eight and are still targeting seven more,” he added.

The rebuilding process is being led by head coach Richard Luyima, who has been tasked with assembling a more disciplined and competitive squad.

Among the key signings is the return of former captain Michael Abura. Abura, who had left the club after refusing to play in the Big League, has now made a U-turn and rejoined the Lufula Boys.

Other new exciting additions include Brian Ssempijja, defender Pius Kwoyero, winger Bruno Mukwaya, Ashraf Neymar, Bashir Kintu, Brian Masembe and Tadeo Muwanguzi.

To maintain continuity, CATDA has retained a core of eight players from last season. They include goalkeeper Godwin Adriko, wingers Isaac Ssenyunja and Jeremiah Jabera, and defender Martin Kikambi Junior. Other retained players are Micheal Kintu, Simon Bazibu, Arafat Mawanda, Amur Benja and Adriko Rogers.

The club is targeting seven more signings to complete its 15-player recruitment plan before the new season kicks off.

With eight new faces already in and more expected, CATIDA FC will be hoping the fresh blood brings renewed fight and stability as they aim to avoid another relegation battle in the upcoming Big League campaign.
