Midfielder Kiyingi Murushid- Former Gomba Ssaza Player.

Butambala Ssaza have continued to strengthen their squad with two more signings as they chase a deep run in this year’s Masaza Cup.

The Muganzirwaza group leaders, who remain unbeaten this season, have completed the signing of goalkeeper Mbuga Ismail from El Cambio Academy.

Mbuga will compete for the number one spot with Waibi Edrisa of Buddo SS, who has been the first-choice goalkeeper so far.

The second addition is Murushid Kiyingi, a deep-lying playmaker from Kampala Province League side Springs Well Amigo FC.

Kiyingi is known for dictating play and initiating attacks, and he is expected to be a strong addition to the Butambala midfield.

He previously featured for Kireka Young FC in the Kampala Central Fourth Division. With Springs Well Amigo, he helped the club lift the Kampala Province League title and earn promotion to the Kampala Region League for the 2026-27 season.

“We Added Players That Can Bring Maturity”
Speaking on the new signings, Butambala Ssaza Assistant Coach Edwin Laston said the technical team identified areas to improve after reviewing the first round.

“After our technical assessment of the first round, we saw where we were scoring goals, the chances we missed, and how we were vulnerable in defense. That’s why we added experienced players, or players that can act mature and add maturity during matches. That’s why we added these players in different departments.”

Eyeing The Knockout Stage
Laston also sent a message to Butambala fans, promising continued progress.

“To Butambala fans, I promised that we shall make sure the team gets past the group stages. Indeed, we are 70% of the way to achieving this milestone based on our first round performance.

We promise to continue playing entertaining and good football, and to win matches both away and at home.

We will push for more glory because we are almost through the group stage and we want to fight for the title. Therefore, Butambala fans, just expect success.”

On the goalkeeping department, Laston said Edrisa has performed well, but Mbuga’s arrival will increase competition.

“In the goalkeeping department, Edrisa has been performing well. The addition of Mbuga will bring stiff competition in this department as we continue preparing for the knockout stages too.”

Butambala sit top of the Muganzirwaza group and are well placed to qualify for the knockout rounds.
