Buganda Region League: Simba FC , Buwambo United, Uganda Sports Arena Secured Vital Victories.
The Buganda Region League commenced yesterday with match day 17, and the competition is heating up
Young Simba FC edged Nantabulirwa FC 1-0 away from home at St Joseph Balikudembe Primary School, courtesy of prolific forward Derrick Taremwa’s early strike in the 3rd minute, taking his goal tally to 16 goals this season.
In the Masaka Derby, Joseph Kayondo struck twice as Masaka Sports Club shared spoils 2-2 with Nyendo Football Club. Meanwhile, Kajjansi United FC claimed a 2-1 victory over Synergy FC at Mwerwerwe Mattuga playground.
At Namulonge Playground Simba FC returned to winning ways with a commanding 3-1 win over Manyangwa FC.
Simba FC’s Benson Ogwang opened the scoring in the 11th minute, followed by Sam Ssemuggu’s 31st-minute goal, and Cyril Enos Ejoku extended their lead five minutes into the second half.
Jonathan Kayemba pulled one back for Manyangwa FC in the 63rd minute, but it wasn’t enough to stop Simba FC’s momentum.
This win propelled Simba FC to the top of the table with 39 points from 17 matches.
In other matches, Uganda Sports Arena FC picked up a thrilling 4-2 win over Wobulenzi United at Katikamu Vett playground.
William Kinene struck first for Wobulenzi, but Shafrick Sonko equalized for Uganda Sports Arena, and eventually completed his brace in the 75th minute.
Twaifu Lubwama and Asumani Makumbi added to Uganda’s tally, securing their second consecutive win.
Relegation-threatened Buikwe Red Stars lost 1-0 to Kiboga United, while rejuvenated Buwambo United claimed a 2-1 victory over Seeta United FC.
Brian Muwayiira and new signing John Ssenyonga scored for Buwambo, who have now won two games in a row and closed the gap to just one point behind table leaders Simba FC, sitting second with 38 points from 17 matches.
