How Ugandan Players Abroad Performed Last Week: Goals, Debuts and Done Deals
It was another busy week for Ugandan players plying their trade abroad, with action across UEFA competitions, league football in Europe, Africa, America and the CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers. Several players found the back of the net, while others made key contributions for their clubs.
Here is how they performed:
UEFA COMPETITIONS
UEFA Europa League
In Denmark, James Bogere played 81 minutes for AGF Aarhus on Thursday as they lost 3-1 to Portuguese giants Benfica.
UEFA Conference League
Also on Thursday, Rogers Mato was introduced in the 72nd minute for Hearts as they drew 2-2 with FK Rapid in the Conference League.
ENGLAND
English Championship
On Saturday, 17-year-old Ryan Kavuma McQueen, who is on loan from Chelsea, scored a goal as Portsmouth defeated Lincoln City 3-1.
On the same day, Divine Mukasa was introduced in the 70th minute as West Ham lost 2-1 to Charlton Athletic.
League One
On Saturday, Toby Sibbick played full-time for Burton Albion as they claimed a 2-1 victory over Leicester City.
CZECH REPUBLIC
On Saturday, Aziz Kayondo played the full 90 minutes as Slovan Liberec secured a 1-0 win over Zlin.

On Sunday, John Paul Dembe was introduced in the 77th minute as Sigma Olomouc edged FK Pardubice 2-1.
DENMARK
On Saturday, Phionah Nabumba played full-time as Midtjylland thrashed ASA Aarhus 4-1 in the women’s league.
On Sunday, James Bogere scored a goal and played 72 minutes as AGF Aarhus drew 2-2 with Odense. His compatriot, Hamuza Ssengooba, was not in the matchday squad.
SCOTLAND
On Saturday, Allan Oyirwoth played full-time for Dunfermline Athletic as they lost 2-0 to Livingston.
TUNISIA
On Saturday, Travis Mutyaba played 67 minutes for CS Sfaxien as they shared spoils 1-1 with Stade Tunisien. His teammate Hakim Mutebi was an unused substitute.
TANZANIA
On Thursday, Hassan Mubiru started on the bench for Azam FC as they defeated TRA United 2-1. Joseph Akandwanaho started for TRA United.
On Sunday, Hassan Mubiru again started from the bench as Azam edged Pamba 2-1.
EGYPT
On Friday, Kenneth Semakula played full-time for Al Ittihad Alexandria as they held Zamalek to a goalless draw. He was cautioned in the 39th minute.
On Saturday, Joachim Ojera played 16 minutes while Joseph Ochaya was an unused substitute as Arab Contractors lost 1-0 to El Gaish.
SOUTH AFRICA
On Sunday, Denis Onyango was on the bench as Mamelodi Sundowns lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows in the MTN8 Cup.
IRAQ
On Thursday, Ivan Ahimbisibwe featured for Zakho SC as they lost 2-1 to Al-Minaa.

USL Championship
On Saturday, Edward Kizza provided an assist and featured for 68 minutes as Indy Eleven edged Louisville City 2-1.
On Saturday, Bobosi Byaruhanga was introduced in the 72nd minute as Oakland Roots claimed a 1-0 victory over San Antonio. He received a yellow card in the 97th minute.
Midfielder Noble Okello has completed his move to Lexington Sporting Club from Indy Eleven.

On Saturday, Sandra Nabweteme played 61 minutes as Santos Laguna lost 3-2 to Juarez.

CECAFA Qualifiers
Zaina Namuleme made her debut for Rayon Sports WFC on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw by Zanzibar debutants Mafunzo FC.
On Saturday, goalkeeper Ruth Aturo and Zainah Nandede both featured for Simba Queens as they edged Top Girls FC 2-0.
On Thursday, Yei Joint Stars edged Denden FC 3-0. Grace Aluka came off the bench to score a brace, while Lukia Namubiru and Spencer Nakacwa both started.
On Sunday, Moureen Nankiinga, Lukia Namubiru, Grace Aluka and Spencer Nakacwa all featured for Yei Joint Stars as they defeated Mafunzo 1-0. The South Sudan side now has two wins in two matches.
COSAFA Qualifiers
On Saturday, both Hadijah Nalongo and Halima Kanyago featured for Herentals Queens as they lost 1-0 to Gaborone United.
TRANSFER DONE DEALS
It was also a busy week in the transfer market:
- Allan Okello completed his move to AS FAR Rabat from Young Africans SC.
- Hussein Ssenoga joined Mukura Victory Sports Club from Kitara FC
- Gavin Kizito and Joseph Seremba joined Nairobi United FC
- Sandra Kisakye and Hadijah Nandago joined Kenya Police Bullets.
- Forward Resty Kobusobozi, left-back Sumaya Komuntale, goalkeeper Molly Naibitaka and midfielder Joan Nabirye all joined Tanzanian side Young Africans Princesses. Kobusobozi from Lady Doves, while Komuntale and Naibitaka joined from She Corporate.
- Joseph Ssemujju was unveiled by Zambian top-flight side Kansanshi Dynamos FC.
From Europe to Africa and America, Ugandan players continue to make their mark. With goals from Ryan Kavuma, James Bogere, Juliet Nalukenge and Grace Aluka, plus notable debuts and important transfers, the Ugandan contingent abroad is showing great promise ahead of upcoming national team engagements.
