The Turkish football betting scandal deepens, with top players from Galatasaray and Beşiktaş, including Eren Elmalı, Metehan Baltacı, Necip Uysal, and Ersin Destanoğlu, facing disciplinary action. The TFF has referred 1,024 players to the PFDK, with 47 cases on hold pending further investigation.
The scandal has prompted the TFF to postpone 2nd and 3rd League matches for two weeks, and arrest warrants have been issued for 17 referees and Eyüpspor’s president. The investigation involves international institutions, including FIFA and UEFA, and is being led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In response, the four major clubs – Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş, and Trabzonspor – have issued a joint statement, emphasizing the need to clean up Turkish football and restore justice.
