A Whistle Blows for Frank Kakudu: A Career in Refereeing Comes To An End

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Ugandan football fraternity, Referee Frank Kakudu has announced his retirement from refereeing, effective immediately. The decision marks the end of a distinguished career that saw Kakudu officiate at the top level of Ugandan football, including national leagues .

Kakudu, who has been serving as a National referee and Kampala Region Development Officer simultaneously, cited his desire to focus on administrative roles as the reason behind his decision to hang up his whistle. “I wanted to concentrate on administrative issues and apply my experience in a different capacity,” Kakudu explained. “I gained a lot of experience on football matters in terms of refereeing, and now I want to focus on contributing to the development of the sport through administration.”

Kakudu’s refereeing career was marked by several notable appointments, including the De La mennais Tournament for Catholic schools, the Umea Solidarity Games for Muslim schools, and school, and the USSSA Boys Football Championship in Ngora.

He also officiated in FUFA-organized competitions, including the FUFA Women Super League and the Women Elite FUFA Big League. Last year,

Kakudu attended a Young Talent FIFA MA Course held at FIFA Technical Centre in Njeru, further honing his skills in football administration and management.

Reflecting on his time as a referee, Kakudu expressed gratitude for the experience and opportunities he had. “I gained a lot of experience on football matters in terms of refereeing,

” he said. “I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, and I’m excited to see what the future holds in administration.”

Kakudu’s retirement from refereeing has been met with tributes from the football community, with many praising his contributions to the sport. As he focuses on his administrative role, Kakudu is expected to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to bear, helping to shape the future of Ugandan football.
