Masaza Cup Returns: Butambala Secure 1-0 Win, Ssese Held 1-1 At Home

The 2026 Masaza Cup is underway, and the opening day did not disappoint. Goals, late drama and point-earning performances set the tone as Butambala edged Mawogola while Ssese were held to a 1-1 draw by Bulemeezi.

Muganzirwaza Group: Butambala 1-0 Mawogola.

At Kibibi SS Playground, Butambala started their campaign with a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Mawogola. The breakthrough came right on the stroke of halftime. Forward Mubiru Dasan struck in the 45th minute to send the home fans into celebration and secure all three points for the hosts.

One goal was enough, but the timing made it count. Butambala now sit top of Muganzirwaza Group after matchday one.

Masengere Group: Ssese 1-1 Bulemeezi.
At Lutoboka Playground, hosts Ssese were forced to settle for a point after a 1-1 draw with Bulemeezi. Raymond Kayemba gave the islanders a dream start, scoring in the 8th minute to send the home crowd wild early on.

But Bulemeezi, who failed to get out of the group stages last season, showed new resolve. New signing Shafik Nyanzi from Buweekula equalized in the 34th minute to level matters and earn his side a valuable away point.

Kayemba Raymond’s early strike and constant threat saw him named Man of the Match, despite Ssese dropping two points at home.

Butambala will be happy with a 1-0 start and a clean sheet. Mawogola will rue conceding so late in the half. For Bulemeezi, a point away at Lutoboka feels like progress after last season’s group stage exit. Ssese, meanwhile, will feel they should have held on for all three points.
