Buwambo United are headed to the FUFA Big League after a dramatic 4-2 win over Black Stars FC sealed a 5-3 aggregate victory and promotion to Uganda’s second tier.
Playing under coach Patrick Kimuli, the Wakiso-based side showed composure and firepower to finish the job in the second leg. Black Stars, coached by young tactician Abdul Ssekajja, will regroup in the Kampala Region League next season despite a spirited display over two legs.

Black Stars came out flying and stunned the hosts in the 3rd minute with an early goal. But Buwambo United responded with ruthless efficiency.
Innocent Ongurucho leveled matters in the 23rd minute with a stunning strike from outside the penalty area. Three minutes later, Alex Mutebi doubled the lead with a precise curler into the far left corner. Abubakali Kalungi then made it 3-1 in the 38th minute to put Buwambo in control before halftime.
Black Stars refused to fold. Prolific forward Benon Lutaaya reduced the deficit with a powerful shot to make it 3-2 and keep the tie alive. The tension lasted until the 87th minute when substitute Pius sealed promotion for Buwambo United with a late strike, three minutes before stoppage time.

Despite missing out on promotion, Black Stars can hold their heads high. Coach Abdul Ssekajja, one of the youngest tacticians in the Kampala Region League, showcased tactical maturity throughout the season. His side’s fast start and resilience against a Big League-bound opponent proved they have the foundation to challenge again next season.
For Buwambo United, this is more than just promotion. It’s validation of a project built on clear coaching, local talent, and ambition. From Regional League football to the FUFA Big League, Kimuli Patrick’s team has earned the right to test itself against tougher opposition, bigger crowds, and the dream of UPL football.
The 5-3 aggregate win over Black Stars marks the end of one journey and the start of another. Wakiso will have a new representative in the second tier next season — and Buwambo United are ready.
