A transfer tug-of-war is brewing in the Uganda Premier League as four top sides line up to land Maroons FC attacking midfielder Ivan Mayanja ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. With the league set to return on August 28 and the transfer window slamming shut on September 19 , clubs are wasting no time in chasing one of last season’s breakout performers.

Mayanja forced his way into the spotlight during the 2025-26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season, delivering five goals and four assists from midfield.

It was his ability to dictate tempo, pick out decisive passes, and drive at defenses that made him stand out in a Maroons side .

The interest hasn’t come from just one corner. The 17-time league champions SC Villa are pushing hard . Last season, Ivan Mayanja scored and was named Man of the Match as Maroons FC edged SC Villa 1-0 at Luzira Prisons Playground — one of his best performances in the league .

Other teams include KCCA FC, NEC FC, and Mayanja’s former employers URA FC. Each sees him as a different piece of the puzzle whether it’s creativity in the final third, energy in transition, or a player who can unlock tight games. For a midfielder who thrives in half-spaces and isn’t afraid to take players on.

Mayanja’s journey to this point has been steady rather than meteoric. He cut his teeth at CATDA FC before moving to Express FC , Busiro in Prestigious Masaza Cup among others
