All Roads Lead To Buwambo As Title Race Comes Down To 90 Minutes

The 2025-26 Buganda Region League reaches its climax today on the final matchday, with the championship still on the line and relegation already decided. All eyes turn to Buwambo Playground, where a winner-takes-most showdown between Buwambo United and Simba FC will decide who lifts the title.

It’s a mouth-watering clash between the league’s two giants, separated only by head-to-head record after both finished the season on 64 points.

Simba FC sit top under coach Andrew Mugaga and need only to avoid defeat to be crowned champions. Buwambo United, buoyed by a fortress-like home record, must win to snatch the crown.

Simba will lean on firepower and experience. Former Lugazi FC striker Sam Ssemuggu has netted 19 league goals this season and remains their biggest threat, supported by Robert Ssewanyana up front. On the flanks, gifted winger Kenneth Sebadduka and left-back Kirumira Tigan add pace and balance to a side that knows a draw is enough.

Buwambo United, meanwhile, have thrived on teamwork and momentum. Alex Yiga and Bernardo Kateregga have combined for 12 assists this season, while in-form Ssekatawa Enock carries the main goal threat. In midfield, Vianey Kigenyi, Mutebi Alex “Hazzard”, and Abubakali Kalungi will be tasked with controlling tempo. With home fans demanding nothing less than victory, Buwambo know only a win will do.

The first leg between these two sides ended 3-0 in favour of Buwambo United Football Club.

Elsewhere on the final day:

  • Synergy host Seeta United FC at Ndeeba Kayunga Playground
  • Young Simba FC welcome Masaka City SC at Bombo Military Barracks Ground
  • Manyangwa face Kajjansi at Uganda Martyrs Ssonde
  • Uganda Sports Arena take on Kira United FC at Ntejeru Playground
  • Kiboga United host Nantabulirwa at Ssaza Ground, Kiboga
  • Buikwe entertain Wobulenzi United

Relegation has already been confirmed for Kiboga United FC, Manyangwa Football Club, Buikwe Red Stars FC, and Super Eagles Lugongwe, who withdrew after 15 matches due to financial constraints.

The race for the Golden Boot also goes down to the wire. Young Simba’s Derrick Taremwa leads with 26 goals, but Masaka City’s Meddie Kasule is hot on his heels with 25.

With Simba needing just a point and Buwambo needing all three, tension couldn’t be higher. One slip, one moment of brilliance, and the Buganda Region League title changes hands. For Buwambo United, it’s win or nothing. For Simba FC, it’s hold firm and make history. The stage is set for a final day that will be remembered in Buganda football for a long time.
